Music and art are fundamental human functions. Art and humanity cannot exist without each other. The desire to create is a burning desire for all of us, no matter how small or large. It is impossible not to interact with sound, whether for enjoyment or making it. Music has always been a significant part of people’s lives. It doesn’t matter if you listen to classical music or modern concert music. Both kinds of music are valuable for society. However, we all know that the music is underappreciated and not well-known. As a musician and artist, it is my responsibility to ensure that other people can enjoy the art I love.
Classical and concert music is not an integral part of mainstream American culture. This is due to stigmas and the government’s policies over the past two decades (declining music education at the local level, resistance towards increased NEA funding, and less visibility for the arts on a national level). Let us hope that Obama can reverse these trends. Many still believe classical music is only for the wealthy, the older and the well-educated. Some people may be uncomfortable going to classical music events, feeling like they have to dress and act in a certain way to get into the recital or concert halls. The pretentiousness, elitism, and arrogance that some artists display are amplified through television commercials, plays and books by people of influence and even themselves. This distances musicians from the mainstream. This stereotype is partially true. The majority of concert music listeners feel that it doesn’t have any value or relevance to their lives, and this is because they don’t believe it can be “for them”. The lack of interest by the previous government in supporting and promoting the arts, regardless of whether they are funding arts education or organizations, further complicates the situation. We have witnessed evidence of the commitment and hope from the current government. But, America’s society must believe that all can enjoy classical/concert musicals enjoyment.
Listening to music or attending an event is the best way to get involved in music. It can be very satisfying to listen to music in a car, at home, on the computer or an iPod. As we all know, music sets the mood and the vibe in bars, lounges, parties and other social settings. A concert offers the unique opportunity to hear live musicians and listen to the music as intended (if it’s acoustic). Without distractions, you won’t find a better place to sit and listen with others or enjoy music in relative silence.
Music can stimulate the mind. Music can stimulate the mind in many ways. You can pay attention to the melody or theme, the harmony, driving or relaxed rhythms, and the sounds’ color. It is also possible to be aware of how the sounds are made or their relationship with one another. It is possible to lose yourself in an alien world of sounds by listening with focus and attention.
Concert music is music that not only delights the ears but also nurtures the soul. Music can trigger emotions. This has been a long-held belief. Music can have a variety of characters that can alter one’s mood. Music can lift someone’s mood or get them excited. It can also calm them down and relax them. Music can also help us feel almost all the emotions we experience in life, which is very important. There are many options.
Music, especially concert music, has many great qualities. It opens up new realms of experience that enhance the mind, body coordination, and expression. Amateur musicians can choose to perform in community ensembles, such as a band, orchestra, or choir, take lessons, play with others, compose, or do other activities that professional musicians might do while still maintaining their normal lives. This involves intense coordination to perform an instrument with or without others. It also requires the ability to read musical notation and make subtle or powerful nuanced adjustments to the music. Music can be a way to escape everyday life and express one’s creativity. Music is an integral part of their lives. It fulfills a need or a desire to create music.
Music is a valuable tool at all levels of education. Music enhances students’ mind and expressive abilities, which in turn teaches them many essential and valuable life skills. Reading music is learning to understand a new language with abstract sonic meanings. Not only must one understand and decipher the unique symbols on a page, but they also need to know how to perform them. Music students learn to have a good ear. A critical ear will allow you to analyze, critique, practice and rehearse music performances. Performer of music requires the ability to play with both others and alone. Both require certain skills. Music analysis, composition, listening to music and understanding its history and association with current and historical trends are all great ways to learn. Whether at the high school, middle school, college, or self-study level, music students can learn self-discipline and expression through sound. They also improve technical motor skills, problem-solving skills, cooperation and collaboration skills, and how to spark creative and critical minds. The most important thing is that the student will understand that music has all of these qualities and the pleasure of listening with great attention or casually. These skills are available to anyone who studies music, regardless of whether or not they know them. Even if they don’t choose to make music a career, those who have studied it can take the skills and use them in their daily lives and careers.
Arts and music in mainstream America are often viewed as an additional discipline, which isn’t essential for the functioning of society and culture. However, this seems to be changing. Arts and music fill a gap in society that we all need to enrich our lives and culture. They provide infinite alternative experiences and enhance our skills in other fields and professions. Recent shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Colbert Report,” which feature live composers like Steve Reich and guests from jazz and classical music, have made the arts more mainstream and attracted viewers’ attention. Viewers can learn from “American Idol” how to be critical of musical performances and voice strong musical opinions. The YouTube Symphony Orchestra contest received much media attention and strong response. Our society is getting more involved in the arts, whether they realize it. For far too long, classical music and the arts have been hidden from the public’s attention. Now that this is being exposed little by little, there is growing interest and excitement. The public must be made aware of what is happening, and artists and musicians who are passionate about music and the arts should continue to show it to them using various modern methods. The arts and music may be a better alternative to mainstream entertainment. Society should have more options for enriching lives and minds. This trend is expected to lead to classical and concert music being more prominently included in mainstream society.
